Title: When It Rains
Author: Lisa De Jong
Expected Release Date:  September 21, 2013
Genre:  New Adult Contemporary
Cover Designer: Mae I Design & Photography
Cover reveal organized by: Shh Moms Reading

One night changed my life forever.

Beau Bennett has been my best friend since I can remember. He was my first crush before everything came crashing down, and now he wants more, but it's more than I can give him. Things are different now. I wish I could tell him why, but I can't.

I haven’t told anyone.

I never knew how much I really needed him until the day he left for college, and I was completely alone.

Then one day, Asher Hunt rides into town with his dark, captivating eyes and cocky grin. He doesn't care who I used to be, he's simply breathing life into what’s left. People warn me to stay away from him, but he helps me forget the pain that has held me hostage for so long; something I thought was impossible before he walked into my life.

I’ve been hurt.

I’ve been saved.

And I’ve found hope.

I thought my story was written that night, but now I know it was only a new beginning. Until one secret turns my world upside down…

When you live in small town, there’s not much to do on a fall Friday night after a football game.

When the season started this year, some of the upperclassman at my high school decided that we should all have a bonfire after each game. It was really an excuse to drink and hook-up: two things I wasn’t interested in but I always went to hang out with my friends anyway.

That’s where I was that night.

The night I retreated into darkness, where the night sky had no stars, the day had no sun, and all hope was drained from my body.

The night my life ended.

And Beau Bennett wasn’t there.

If he had been, he would’ve saved me, just like he always does.  He was grounded that night for staying out past curfew the Friday before; in fact, it’s the only weekend I remember Beau ever being grounded.

Life is a series of coincidences and that night, coincidence screwed me over.

The most important thing I lost was my entire sense of self.  It took seventeen years to build my foundation and it took mere minutes to tear it down.

I hate him.

The old Kate’s gone...and she’s never coming back.

And I’ll always hate when it rains.

Review - Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder

OOOOO++++++ - OMG!!!

Title: Falling Into You
Author: Jasinda Wilder

My View:

Every once in a blue moon, I read a book that leaves a big gaping hole in my heart. There must be a blue moon because my heart is a bleeding mess. Let me fill you in on my first experience reading a book by Jasinda Wilder.

I’m not one who cries easily or shows a great deal of emotion. I’m pretty good at hiding my feelings and holding it all in. There have been a few books that certainly made my tears fall and my nose sniffle. Falling Into You now proudly takes the top spot on my “you made me cry” book list.  The dedication alone was a tearjerker:
“This book is for anyone who has ever lost a loved one, for anyone who has woken up crying and gone to bed the same way, for anyone who has had to learn that it’s okay to not be okay. Surviving isn’t strength, it’s continuing to breathe one day at a time; strength is learning to live despite the pain.”
You know from the synopsis what’s going to happen. You know from page one it’s coming.
I wasn't always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.
Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.

Colton didn't teach me how to live. He didn't heal the pain. He didn't make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.
Best friends and inseparable from birth, Kyle and Nell spent the first 16 years of their lives growing up together. Then suddenly, they see each other in a new and exciting light. So their relationship takes a turn:
“And now we’re learning how to fall in love together. I don’t care what any one else says. I love you. I’ll always love you, no matter what happens with us in the future. I love you now and forever. - Kyle”
And even though that seed has been planted in the back of your mind, you can kind of forget the inevitable for a while. Because it’s a beautiful, poignant love story. A story of firsts. First best friend, first true love, first time. Jasinda Wilder’s exceptional writing poetically walks you through all those “firsts” and you feel them…potently. It’s sweet and beautiful and awkward and scary and lovely. The author’s writing is just THAT PHENOMENAL.

It was so easy to fall in love with Kyle and Nell. Their naïveté and innocence was heartwarming.
“Nothing mattered but the delirious joy of Kyle, of my first kiss, of making out with my best friend, the only guy I’d ever really cared about.”
But then the inevitable occurs:
“You can't Nell. Just...hold my hand. I love you"
It’s painful, heart wrenching, and tragic. It hurt. So very much! As much as it pained me to do so, I had to shut down my Kindle & walk away. My eyes were stinging and dreadfully blurry. I could barely focus on the words. Jasinda tugged on every possible raw, gut wrenching emotion. I was openly grieving for a fictional character.
“I wanted nothing more than to climb into the box with him and quit breathing, find him in whatever came after life.”
The emotional intensity didn’t end there. It was a constant presence throughout the rest of the book. Nell couldn’t move on. She wouldn’t let the pain out. Then Colton shows up. And they have a connection.
“… it had felt too right, nestled in his arms. Too comforting. Too natural. Too much like home.”
But…Colton is Kyle’s older brother who has been estranged from his family for years. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about him. I loved Kyle, a lot. But Kyle was gone. He shouldn’t have been gone but he was. And Nell really needed to heal. She was in a bad way, doing things that will rip your heart out and make your soul bleed. I wanted to help her heal. Colton wanted to help her heal. He understood her and wouldn’t give up on her. He taught her it was okay to not be okay.
“You can't hold it in forever," Colton said.
“Feel. Grieve. Let yourself feel the anger at the fact that he was taken from you. Feel the loss of him . Feel the sadness and the missing him. Don't block it out, don't cut so it stops, don't drink yourself numb. Just sit and let it all rip you apart. And then get up and keep breathing. One breath at a time. One day at a time. Wake up, and be shredded. Cry for a while. Then stop crying and go about your day. You're not okay but you're alive, and you will be okay, someday”
Every page, every sentence, every second of this story was as painful as an open wound. I was constantly fighting back the tears (with no such luck). I hurt for Nell. I hurt for Kyle. I hurt for Colton. I was shattered. My heart was shredded. But eventually there was hope and healing.
“You don't ever really let go, though. You don't stop. You don't stop hurting, you don't stop loving. It doesn't go away, you just keep living and eventually shit gets pushed into the background of your life so it's not consuming you every day. And then one day you know you're okay. It still hurts, you still miss that person. And yeah, you forget the details. The way she smelled, the way her mouth tasted, how her skin felt, the sound of her voice. It's almost like a different life, a different person that loved her, was with her. But on a day-to-day level, you know you're okay. Sort of.”
Colton was very different from Kyle. Colton was streetwise, dominating and fierce. And HOT! Tattooed, bad-boy HOT! (Yeah, I had to throw that in there.) There were some crazy steamy scenes between Colton and Nell. (Surprised the hell out of me!) But Colton and Nell really were perfect together. They found in each other a source of comfort and relief, a different kind of love than they previously had with those before them, and most of all they learned how to live again.
"But we have to learn to be free. We have to, Nell. Doesn't mean happy all the time, or okay all the time. It's okay not to be okay. I told you that, but I'm relearning it myself. But not being okay doesn't mean you stop living."
This book blew me away, leaving me with a seriously intense book hangover from which I don’t know how to recover. I’ve lost sleep thinking about Kyle. I need to keep reminding myself that these are book characters. It’s the kind of story that’s very difficult to let go of and move on. It’s one of those books that will stay with me forever. If you like to feel, truly feel what you read, grab a box of tissues and a glass wine, get comfortable and pick up this book. It will be a cathartic experience, which I believe we all need every now and then.

Review - Rock the Heart by Michelle Valentine

OOOO - Yes! Yes! Yes!

Love tattooed, bad-boy rock stars with sweet gentle souls?

Adore romances involving reconnecting with your first love?

Then get ready to have your heart rocked and your world shattered!

Because this is the book for you!

Once upon a time, there was a boy and a girl in high school. And they fell in love. The boy wanted to be a rock star. The girl wanted to go to college. So she left him. And he became a quite a success. Then four years later, they meet again. And here’s where the story begins…

I must admit, upon first meeting Noel, I really didn’t like him too much. Nope, not too much at all.
“This next song goes out to the girl who shredded my heart without hesitation back in high school. It's called Ball Busting Bitch, and Lanie this one's for you.”
As you can see, he was a real d*#k to Lanie. Sure, she broke his heart once upon a time, but did he have to be such an a$$ about it four years after the fact?! Grow up! Get over it! He had tons of women falling at his feet.

But he really wanted only one. So, he redeemed himself. He said this:
“Lane.” The way he says my name makes my toes curl. “I’m still crazy over you. I know it’s been a while, but it feels like just yesterday when you walked out of my life. When you left me, I was so empty. There was this huge, gaping hole in my heart that no one could fill. I tried to get over you. I really did, but you were always there. Every woman I kissed was you.”
And then I fell! SWOON!!! I mean, O.M.G. This boy really laid all his cards out on the table for her to see.

But Lanie was still being cautious. And I can certainly understand why. I mean, who doesn’t love a bad boy rock star?!
“Everyone wants a piece of him.”
Would she ever trust him? Could she ever trust him?
“The life of a rock star is unreal.”
I understood her dilemma. But I still so badly wanted them together. His first real love. Her first real love. High school sweethearts. How romantic is that! If only she would listen to Aubrey, her best friend.
“You should be ecstatic right now. Reconnection with your first love is something people dream about and you’re getting that.”
How many people actually get the chance to reconnect with their first true love?

This story had quite a few ups and downs and backs and forths. But I whole heartedly enjoyed the musical ride. Meeting Black Falcon’s diverse band members combined with amusing banter between characters and Lanie’s inner monologues further added to my fondness for this book.
“I don’t get where he gets off thinking he should be able to have his cake and eat it too because news flash, this cake store is fucking closed.”
Then throw in some mystery and you’ve got me hook, line and sinker! I definitely had the feeling that Noel was hiding something and oh my, he sure was. The tension between Noel and Riff, one of his band mates was nearly tangible. And when the s*#t hit the fan, my heart broke for all of them. Add a skanky b*@#h to the mix and you have the makings of one helluva story.

I will never tire of sexy rock god stories and Noel Falcon is no exception! So if you’re looking for a swoony summertime beach read, pick this one up. You won’t be disappointed.

Blog Tour - Savor You by Emily Snow

Title: Savor You
Author: Emily Snow
Tour Organizer: Shh Moms Reading

Kylie Wolfe and guitarist Wyatt McCrae have been bad for each other for the last several years, but it’s impossible for them to end their toxic push and pull. Not when their attraction is constantly fueled by lust and proximity—she’s her older brother’s Lucas’s assistant and Wyatt is his best friend and band mate.

So when Your Toxic Sequel makes a move to record a new album in Nashville, Kylie decides to make the latest break with Wyatt official by getting the hell out of town. She’ll spend a week in New Orleans. A week to immerse herself in the Mardi Gras scene. One week to not think about the last time she was in New Orleans, seven years ago with Wyatt. Seven days where she won’t have to see Wyatt every day just to fall ridiculously in love with him all over again—where, if she wants to, she can have a normal, no-strings attached fling that won’t end in heartbreak.

Too bad Wyatt ruins everything by showing up, as gorgeous and demanding and goddamn awful for her as ever.

Wyatt refuses to let Kylie give up on him. Not without reminding her why they both fell so far and hard in the first place. Not without making her savor the good memories and what could be their last chance with each other.

Note: This is a spinoff from the Devoured series.

About the Author:

Emily Snow is New York Times and USA Today bestelling author of the erotic romance series Devoured, which includes Devoured, All Over You, and Consumed as well as the new adult novel, Tidal. Wyatt’s breath on my neck separates me from my thoughts. I face him with a forced smile on my face. “Ready?” he asks.

I tip my head back before I answer him, glaring up at the overcast sky through my sunglasses. “Yeah, I am.” Taking a small step toward the car, I say, “But fair warning: If you end up asking me to chauffeur you around, I might break that pretty blue Kramer of yours over your head.”

He inclines his head toward the back compartment of the SUV, where his Kramer guitar is safely stored. “I’m not Lucas, beautiful.” He returns his attention to me, grabs my waist firmly between his hands, and lifts me off the ground into the Suburban.

“I’m capable of lifting my leg high enough to use the step bar.”

“Trust me, I know exactly how high those legs will go.” Before he closes my door, he winks. “By the way, Ky, you couldn’t hurt that pretty blue Kramer, even if you tried.”

Using the rearview mirror, I catch Cal and Heidi stifling laughter from their respective rows.  “Stop encouraging his bull,” I say a little too sharply. But at least they’ve found common ground. It just blows that it’s in the form of the tension crackling between Wyatt and me.

My View:

OOOO - Yes! Yes! Yes!

I absolutely adored this story. It was a rather quick, hot & steamy read with a healthy dose of sexual tension and angst but not so much so that it caused me extreme anxiety. I need a book like this every now and then and Savor You thoroughly fit the bill.

Kylie was a truly likeable heroine for me. A strong bad-ass of a woman, she desperately fought against her love for Wyatt due to their inability to stop hurting each other during their seven-year on-again/off-again semi-relationship. There was a pull, a never-ending magnetic attraction between Wyatt and Kylie that neither of them was able to resist. But Wyatt was your typical rock star screw-up, living the rock star life. However, I couldn’t help but adore him as well. Why? Well, while Kylie was trying to break free of him, he was determined to remind her of why they fell together in the first place. He didn’t want to lose her and fought her resistance every step of the way. Wyatt won me over simply because he wouldn't give up on her.

There was a sweet little twist at the end that completely caught me by surprise. Totally not what I was expecting but so surprisingly pleasant. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick, steamy & not very complicated beach blanket read. Note: This book is a spin-off of the Devoured series. While not fully necessary in order to follow this story-line, I do suggest you at least read Devoured and All Over You (see my reviews for both here) before reading Savor You to get the whole gist of the story.

Happy Reading!
