Jessica Mackey is living a meticulously fabricated lie of necessity. She's left the secret tragedy of her past behind along with who she was and is forging ahead with a clean slate. Jess soon discovers that passion can't be left behind; her own and that of the one man that sees who she really is. Whose presence caresses her soul in a way that may breach the peaceful life Jess has made for herself.
Devin Castile sees a young woman that is the missing puzzle piece to his existence and who is also the victim to a heinous crime. Devin convinces himself that he can remain emotionally distant even while indulging his physical desire for her. OOOO-Yes Yes Yes!
A Terrible Love is anything but terrible and I highly recommend this contemporary romantic thriller! It’s a beautifully written, suspenseful, romance about a young woman trying to blend in and move on with her life after a tragic past. Jessica Mackey just wants to focus on her college studies while not standing out in the crowd. She has a few friends in college but mostly keeps to herself. That is, until the Seattle Pacific Ballet holds auditions at her college and her sassy, outspoken best friend secretly signs her up for an audition. Jess can’t deny that she misses dancing. She was born to dance and even has a ballet bar in her dorm room.
The passion for dance, my former privileged life’s only oasis is now teasing me with its nearness.
Ballet had been my life - before. I can’t give it up, because it won’t give me up. The music plays in my head night and day.But she was supposed to remain invisible. However, once she auditions and is accepted into the program, Jess now becomes anything but invisible, especially to the two main male characters, Mitch Maverick and Devin Castile.
Danger up ahead, my instincts scream. I ignore those. The first chapter was extremely intense and dark. It sets us up for the remainder of the story. I was biting my nails as I read and I’m not a nail biter. The actual story then picks up two years after the fact. It is a tale full of twists and turns, breath holding moments, and sexy times. Thank goodness for Carlie, the sassy, outspoken best friend who brings us comedic relief because some of those scenes were super intense!
Then Carlie had wormed her way inside my defenses despite every obstacle I’d thrown up in her way. Declared herself my friend when it went against every promise I’d made to myself. I broke them all with our friendship. So, whether you love a sexy, tatted bad boy on a motorcycle
I’m going to steer clear of him. Devin Castile is all sex-and-hotness wrapped up in a dangerous package.or a safe, gorgeous “la hunk”
“Six feet two of pure love, dark hair, yummy, sky blue eyes…” Actually they’re gray, I think.…there are plenty of swoon worthy moments in this fast paced read that will leave you guessing right up until the very end. I have to say though, I did think that maybe, no, couldn’t be, could he be? Nah, but then again…oh, you'll just have to read it for yourself!
A love triangle, mysterious secrets, and superb chemistry are just some of the ingredients that when mixed together, cooked up a delicious heart-stopping thriller. Oh, and best yet, no cliffhanger! Sometimes you just need a book like that.
Reviewer’s note: I usually try not to focus too much on the writing/editing when I read because I’m most interested in the actual story. However, I feel the need to note that what kept me from giving this book 5 stars was indeed some of the writing. Not that it was bad overall. However, many sentences would include both past and present tense verbs which managed to trip me up while reading and it sometimes made the sentence difficult to interpret. Other than that though, this story was well worth the little bit of confusion it caused.
