Blog Tour & Giveaway - Forgiven by J.B. McGee

Title: Forgiven (This #3)
Author:  J.B. McGee
Genre: New Adult
Publication Date:  May 16, 2013
Event organized by: Literati Literature Lovers

Everyone has a past…good or bad, they are always there. They lurk and linger in the shadows, sometimes reappearing at the most inconvenient times.

Gabby and Bradley thought that their pasts would remain dormant, that happiness was theirs for the taking. Still the strongest of relationships can be rocked by the ugliness from a previous life, even if it seems to be a world away. The fact remains an ugly past is never distant. It taints everything it touches, drives permanent rifts between loved ones, and sometimes can ruin everything. Gabby and Bradley must find the only way to battle the past. Forgiveness becomes a light through the darkness, a guide for the lost, and hope for the hopeless. With forgiveness comes bright, new beginnings

My View:

So this is how my week went…

I read all four of the This books in seven days. Starting with Broken (This, #1) on 5/22, I worked my way through Mending (This, #2), Conspiring (This, #2.5), and then Forgiven (This, #3).  I haven’t had a chance yet to review the first three books due to the time crunch to complete my review of Forgiven for this blog tour. Briefly, I will tell you that Broken and Mending were 3-star reads for me. I was on the fence.  I didn’t love the books but I certainly didn’t hate them. They were just okay for me. I couldn’t seem to connect with the characters and I had a hard time with the writing style. Too many other reasons to state right now but when I have more time, I will go back and post complete reviews. Conspiring was a step up and a 4-star read. The number one change for me was the first person point of view. This made such a huge difference in my enjoyment of the story. Again, another review, another time.

Mending, a beautiful and poignant love story was also another 4-star read.  There’s no denying the author’s growth. It was such a pleasure to witness just how much Ms. McGee’s writing has developed and matured. Again, the first person point of view made an incredible difference in the tone of the story. And I very much enjoyed reading the multiple points of views from all the different characters. It was crafted perfectly and in such a way as to not cause any confusion at all.

Bradley scored so many more points with me. I wasn’t crazy about him in the first two books. But now I could feel how strong and overwhelming his love was for Gabby. Whether it was a love scene or tension between the couple, the emotions were pouring off the page so much that they were practically tangible. And he waited. Yes folks, the now reformed playboy waited for her. Even when she was so close to being ready to break her promise to her mother, he wouldn’t let her.
“When we’re fully together, Gabby, it will be a first for me.”
“It will be the first time I’ve ever truly made love to a woman. The first time that I loved the woman more than anything in this world. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for you.” He softly kisses me. “You have a part of me that no one, and I mean no one, has ever had before.
“I wish we didn’t have to wait. It’s killing me. This is killing me.”
“Not budging, Gabby.” He is completely serious and his eyes are hooded. I don’t know how he can be so strong about it when he knows what he’s missing, and I don’t even know.
Gabby and Bradley have certainly gone through quite a lot in this series but this is the book that has most of the edge of your seat twists and turns. The angst has been turned up a notch (and who doesn’t love some angst) along with the heat. Yes, Bradley made me swoon, then swoon some more. Where has he been all my life? He certainly knows how to romance his lady! I love me a good love scene. And Ms. McGee has the ability to write a sensuous love scene without being overly graphic, not that I mind overly graphic, but it just wouldn’t have fit with this story. And then, of course there is the humorous banter between the couple for some comic relief.
“Whatcha thinkin’ about?”
“The last time I was here. How surreal all of this feels. You?” He pulls me into his chest.
“Not so innocent thoughts coming from me.”
Gabby’s character has displayed a remarkable amount of growth and development. She’s matured from the fragile, fearful girl she was in book 1. She’s gained an ample amount of strength, faced her fears and grown into an amazing young woman who can make her own decisions and stand up for herself. I found her a bit whiny and annoying in Broken but have now become truly fond of her.
“Everyone thinks I’m so fragile, that I’m so broken. I’m a lot stronger than they think I am. I am in shock, yes. But more importantly, I’m beyond pissed and angry that they knew about this and kept it from me. I’m so tired of secrets and revelations. It seems like as soon as Bradley and I get past one thing, something else happens to threaten our happiness.
As it it’s not enough, my sister refuses to quit treating me like the broken, fragile five-year-old girl I used to be. She insists on protecting and sheltering me. I’m a grown woman. I wish that people would let me make my own decisions. I’ll never be able to make them if people are constantly trying to make them for me.”
Forgiven was without a doubt the best of the series for me so far. It was heartwarming and charming. The epilogue was perfect. I’m very much looking forward to reading the next few installments that J.B. McGee has planned for us, Sam's story and Veronica and Ian's story. Can't wait!

Just a few of my favorite quotes:
“You can’t get back the time in the past. You can’t change it. You can only make sure to learn and move forward.”
“If I’ve learned anything through this experience, it’s that it’s the way we go about situations that set us apart from the rest.”
“Never lose faith. Always have hope. Love for always.” (1 Corinthians 13)

Blog Tour & Giveaway - Girl With Guitar by Caisey Quinn

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy stepmother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true. Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

Today, we have the AMAZING Caisey Quinn on the blog!

1.  What inspired you to write Girl With Guitar?
Basically I’ve always been a huge country music fan. (Even when I was little and used to ride in my daddy’s truck jamming to Hank Sr. My mama called it knee-slappin’ music! Ha!) At a Luke Bryan concert last summer, a friend of a friend made a few comments about opening for Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert before they were a big deal and before they were officially an item. He talked about their onstage chemistry and thus my story was born!
2.  What books have most influenced your life most?
This is such a long list it’s ridiculous. Here’s the short version: Les Mis (Hugo), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Chbosky), and Jennifer Echols’ Going Too Far.
(For the long list, keep an eye out for my guest post on My Top 10 Favorite Books of All Time).
3.  What author has influenced you the most?
Ack! Just one? I can’t narrow that to just one. I will say this. I am such a Jennifer Echols fangirl. Y’all don’t even know. I met her at a book signing for her first romantic drama, Going Too Far, and I still have the picture of us up in my office. Her stories are sweet, heart wrenching, and A-freaking-ddicting! And she’s a local author. Meeting her back in like 2007 I think it was, it hit me that hey, a chick in Alabama CAN be an author! At that time I thought they all had to live in New York. Who knew? I could add Abbi Glines to this also, but I have to confess I actually hadn’t read anything by her until one of my CPs suggested it after reading a draft of GwG. But yeah, her too! Rock on Alabama Author Chicks!
4.  What book are you reading now?
Oohh some good ones! Open on my Kindle right now are my CP’s newest release Love in Darkness and Abbi Glines’ Twisted Perfection. Writing seriously interferes with my reading time but I can’t pass up a great book!
5.  When did your desire to write start?
I pretty much started writing as soon as I could. In ninth grade I had a poem published in a teen magazine and I was addicted to it after that.
6.  Do you have any advice for other writers?
Not sure how good it is, but here’s my newbie indie author advice: 1.Finish what you start. Even when you don’t want to. Some days it will be rough, but keep at it! 2.Set goals. Word counts, deadlines, etc. You can’t reach them if you don’t have them. 3. Do not try to do this alone. Get some beta readers, make friends with other authors and ask the ones you work well with to be critique partners. Return favors. ;)
7.  What can readers look forward to in the future?
The second installment of the Kylie Ryans series, Girl on Tour, is scheduled for release late summer/early fall of this year.
I also have a novel called Keep Me Still that I plan to release this year as well. (late Oct. early Nov.) It’s a stand-alone at this time but if readers ask for it, I may release the prequel novella titled Let You Go and the companion, Defending the Score/Getting His Due (between titles at the moment). ;)
Currently I’m working on a series of books called The Second Chance novels that I hope to submit to Entangled Publishing by the end of June. Working titles are Last Second Chance, Tempted By Fate, and Betting on Chance. If they pass, I’ll be self-pubbing those as well—probably early 2014.
8.  Who or what inspires you?
Everything! It seriously takes a major effort not to grab a pen and jot writing ideas down every second of the day. Music plays a huge role in my writing but I’ve also found inspiration in movies, people I meet, and random observations everywhere I go.
9.  If you could be a superhero, what supernatural power would you choose?
The power to heal. I am always fascinated by those characters that put their hands on people and heal them. (Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid!). I’ve lost a lost of loved ones to illnesses and injuries that involved long-term suffering so this is a power I’d love to have. That or mind-reading. ;)
10.  What is your favorite movie?
Right now it’s a tie between Pitch Perfect and The Breakfast Club. Can.Not.Stop.Watching.
11.  What kind of music do you like?
I am what my brother calls an uneducated listener. I like whatever feels good to my ears. And my soul! My brother is “An Actual Musician.” As in, he’s In A Band and studied music at an institution of higher learning. I’m a country girl at heart but I listen to lots of different types of music and also enjoy Adam Lambert, The Civil Wars, The Lumineers, Christina Perri, Rihanna, Third Day, Tenth Avenue North, Red, Flyleaf, Fireflight, and a few others, including some most people have never even heard of. But I blame that on my brother. ;)
12.   What advice would you give to someone who wants to publish a book?
DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS ALONE. I know I said that in my advice to writers, but it’s huge when it comes to publishing. Writing you can do alone. Yes. But when you get to the publishing part, whether going the traditional or indie route, you will need people to help you. Seek those people out. You’ll be glad you did.
And also, the market is always changing, so even if you get a million rejections from agents, that doesn’t mean your book won’t do well. Can’t hurt to try!
13.  Do you have a message for my blog’s followers?
Thank you so much for your support! People don’t realize how much a kind word, review, email, Tweet, FB message, etc. can mean to an author. Even if you don’t purchase or read my book(s), just dropping me a line to say “cool cover” or something of that nature makes my day/week/month/year/life!!! Big hugs to all of you!
Thanks so much Caisey for joining us today!

Thanks for having me!!

She sounds like such a sweetheart and a fun person to know, doesn't she?

Caisey Quinn lives in a suburb outside of Birmingham, Alabama with her husband, daughter, and other assorted animals. She wears cowgirl boots most of the time, even to church. About the Author:

At twelve, Megan decided to write a novel. A month later, she quit. A reading junkie by nature, she started writing again in her twenties as a way to get the voices out, because who wouldn't want to create a Real Living Person out of thin air? Megan also plays the piano and sings. She teaches little kids and takes pictures of pretty butterflies. She eats way too much chocolate, is sort of a mad scientist with her blender, and spends an unhealthy amount of time LOLing on Facebook and Twitter. She lives in Ohio with her husband and very smiley son. Bitter Angel is her first published novel.

Author’s Favorite Quotes and Why from Bitter Angel Part I
By Megan Hand

“Today, however, was Nilah’s birthday. Stunning five-foot-three Nilah is of Indian descent, but her parents have been in the U.S. since they were babies, so Diva is her only accent.”

-    I love how Lila describes her friends, especially Nilah. She hits it on the nose with Nilah, who’s a loving friend but privileged and materialistic at times.

“We both had family demons that lurked in our shadows, but I’d always felt that together we could block out those demons. Maybe we couldn’t drown out those voices on our own, but with his hands on my ears, mine on his, and our eyes locked together, we could be our own people and live our own lives. Be our own family, our own way. Someday. Maybe.”

-    I love this line because it shows Lila and Jay’s determination to overcome their upbringings and become whoever they’re meant to be as people and as a couple.

“He put his nose to mine. Our faces were so close, my focus zeroed in on him. ‘You’re my butterfly, Lil. But it’s hard to catch her when she keeps running away.’”

-    Jay has a few really sweet scenes, but this is one of my favorites. I think this quote showcases his personality and how sincere he is toward Lila.

His Touch (Brie Learns to Obey)

Instead of coming to her, Sir leaned against the wall and stared at Brie—at her naked body, strapped down and eager for him. She basked in his gaze. It was just like the photo she’d admired; her fantasies were now her reality.

“Some men think they need toys to excite a woman, but I don’t believe that. No, I believe firmly in the power of touch.” He continued to gaze at Brie, without making a move towards her. The fact he was taking his time made her want him all the more.

When Sir finally pushed away from the wall and walked towards her, she was literally trembling in anticipation. When his hand lightly touched her stomach, she gasped. All her awareness was focused on that one area. He gave her a leisurely smile as his fingers made their way up to her breasts.

  • For Marquis Gray: Marquis knows the power of pain in the right doses, and the right settings.
  • For Tono Nosaka: Tono loves Brie, but his is a gentle love.
  • For Falean: Faelan knows Brie is meant for him. He will do whatever it takes to make her his.
  • For Sir: As Headmaster, he is forced to abide by the rules of the institution even though he is irresistibly drawn to her.
  • When I was writing a naughty BDSM scene: I love the naughty beat and lyrics.
  • For the Collaring Ceremony: The words speak for themselves – a very heartfelt moment
  • At the end: This was suggested by one of my fans after I completed Brie. It matched my mood at the time AND Brie’s heart the moment they got onto the elevator.

Book Blitz & Giveaway - Trophy Husband by Lauren Blakely

Title: Trophy Husband
Author: Lauren Blakely
Publication date: May 21st 2013
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance (the author describes it as mid-20s Sex and the City vibe)

Sometimes you can't help falling in love, even when you try to do the opposite...Successful fashion blogger McKenna Bell has spent far too long protecting herself after the way her ex-fiancĂ© left her at the altar for a college chick he met the night of his bachelor party. Loving again, trusting again, well, that's just not in the cards. Especially now that her ex is back in town with his new woman, demanding custody of McKenna's favorite creature in the whole world--her dog. No effing way. McKenna's had enough of him, and she decides to even the score by finding her own hot young thing -- a Trophy Husband. Sure, she's only twenty-seven, but doesn't that make it even more fun -- and infuriating to her ex -- to pursue a younger man? When she declares her intentions on her daily blog, her quest quickly skyrockets in popularity, and that's when Chris enters the picture, and he’s got all the assets. He's handsome, successful, and turns her inside out with a kiss to end all kisses, the kind that makes you feel like a shooting star. But loving again could mean losing again, and it's so much easier to focus on getting even, isn't it? Unless, you just can't help falling in love. Which means McKenna will have to come face to face with what she really wants in life -- protecting her heart from hurt, or letting go of her fears of a new beginning.

Lauren Blakely is an unabashed fan of clever jokes, toast, and good guys in novels. Like the heroine in CAUGHT UP IN US, she thinks life should be filled with movie kisses and coffee drinks. Lauren lives in California with her husband and children, and spends her days writing both true stories and make-believe ones.

Goodreads Author Page:

I could so fall in love with him. I could fall in love with him in a heartbeat. He brings his other hand to my waist, and pulls me in close. He’s seated on the bar stool, and I’m standing as I slide into the V between his legs, his firm thighs now on either side of me. The distance between us narrows, and the temperature rises. Like this, with him so close, I can tell how much he wants me. As much as I want him. I am turned on beyond belief, my skin is so hot, and my body is aching all over with the need to be touched, and he knows it. And just like that, the mood between us here at Circa Rose shifts. It’s no longer flirty, or chatty, or get to know you. We’re no longer a guy and girl confessing to crushes and likes. As he plays with the waistband of my skirt, his hand dipping inside, stroking the bare skin of my hips just above my panties, we are a man and a woman who want to get the hell out of here. The air between us electric, like the moments before a summer storm.

“We don’t need to shoot that promo anymore, do we?” he asks, and his voice is different now too. It’s smoky and low, and as he brings me in closer, I can tell he’s gone to the same place I’ve gone to. Desire. And then the hope that we can take this contact to another level.

“I was really hoping to see your fancy studio though,” I tease.

“It has a nice couch.”

“We could do a lot on a couch.”

“It’s ten blocks away.”

“That’s far,” I say, and I’m keenly aware of how my voice has become a ragged whisper. He has to know what I want right now. Him. His green eyes are dark, shadowed with lust and staring intensely into mine. He’s waiting for me to say more. “But I think I really want to see that couch.”

“Good, because I would really fucking love to make out with you properly right now.”
